Change is good. Actually, change is great. Not just change for the sake of changing, but change that really pushes you forward and puts you in a stronger position. Despite the fact people realize change is good, many times we are reluctant to embrace change. The reason being is that change, for the most part, is a lot of work and requires a true commitment to do things differently. It is not something that just happens easily without investing any effort.
Although we look at challenging times and obstacles as major issues we would rather not have, the alternaview is that when we are confronted with issues and obstacles, we are forced to change and often times that is a good thing.
When the status quo just will not do, people and companies are a lot more open minded to doing things differently (translation…they really have no choice and have to do something). This works to the benefit of people and companies because having no choice means they change for the better quickly. Had certain challenges or issues not arisen, they would not have been as motivated to change and most likely would not have done anything quickly.
The “To Do” List for Good Change:
1. You have to recognize the opportunity.
• It is important to realize that although things may not feel so great on the surface, in actuality, there really is some good that can and will come out of this situation. Your perspective on the issues and challenges is key.
2. You have to move.
• You can not allow yourself to be paralyzed by fear. You have to assess the situation, make plans and execute them. It is as easy as that. This is not the time to question, analyze and resent how you got into a situation. This is the time to move and do what is necessary.
3. You have to believe.
• You need to have confidence that if you do what you have planned, you will be successful. You have to believe deep down you are capable of improving the situation and that it will improve.
So, although people don’t like to be confronted with challenges and companies don’t like to have business issues, the reality is that if they respond appropriately, it is a good opportunity to grow and evolve…this is the alternaview.
