How to Maintain the Best Frame of Mind Everyday – All Day

Think back to the last vacation you had or the last time where you took some down time and had an amazing and relaxing time.  We all plan those times where we can get away from the hustle and bustle of life and our regular routines.  Many times when we look back we think of those times as some of our best times.  They are the times when we feel the best, when we are the happiest, when we are energized, when we unwind and when we really experience life and everything around us.

And, then vacation or our down time ends and it is time to return to the real world.  It is Monday, we are back to work or to our normal routine and slowly but surely the great frame of mind we had fades.

Time goes on, we experience challenges or we are overwhelmed from everything going on and we wish we could just return to that great frame of mind.  We need some more relief and to be re-energized.  It is time for another vacation or some more time away where we can escape from our regular routine.

Or…perhaps it is just time for the alternaview.

Positive Mindset: The alternaview

Instead of relying on vacation or down time to restore our great frame of mind, we should instead aim to be able to maintain a great frame of mind regardless of where we are and what we are doing.  We shouldn’t just be at our best and totally relaxed and unwound when we are away from our regular routine…we have to figure out a way to maintain this frame of mind even on a rainy Monday or on an average Wednesday when we have are not excited about all the things we need to do.

Why?

Because our frame of mind and how we experience everything really matters.  When we are in the right frame of mind not only does it make everything much more enjoyable, it actually sets us up to encounter life from the best perspective where we are attracting more and more positive things and experiences into our life.  The more amount of time where we are genuinely in a good frame of mind, the better.

And, that is why we do ourselves a disservice if we are only able to be at our best and in that great frame of mind when we are on vacation or away from our regular routine.

The reality is that we spend way more time doing our regular routine than we do on vacation or away from our routine and so we need that bulk of time to also be time where we are feeling great, relaxed, calm and energized.  This is how we create and build positive momentum and how we consistently experience the best things life has to offer.

How to use this alternaview:

1. Realize it is not just about being on vacation. It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that vacation is one thing and work is another.  We can make ourselves think we are not supposed to feel as good and relaxed in our everyday routine as we do when we are on vacation or when we are taking a break.  Don’t fall into the cycle where the best thing you have to look forward to is your next vacation or the next time you are able to get away from your routine.  Aim and choose to be in the best frame of mind as much as possible on those ordinary days.

2. Little Moments of Recharging. Throughout the day, it is important to recharge and find your center.  Take advantage of those times when you can take a moment to yourself…driving to work, waiting at a stop light, your morning shower, down time in between tasks, etc.  Anytime you can take some time and purposefully focus on relaxing and recharging should be used, even if it is only for a couple of minutes.  Use this time also to reflect on what you really enjoy and feel fortunate to have in your life.

3. Never wander too far. Throughout the course of a day, different issues or challenges may arise, when we notice one coming, we should be very alert and choose to manage through the situation with best frame of mind.  We should never allow ourselves to be upset about anything for too long and purposefully choose to catch ourselves before things build up and before we are totally worked up or bothered by something.  Never wander too far from your center.

4. Healthy Routines. There is nothing better than having healthy routines. Exercise, yoga, meditation, eating healthy, relaxing, etc.  Make sure you have healthy routines incorporated in your daily routine.  They will help you release any stress or negative feelings.

5. It’s all about how you choose to look at things. Make certain you are continually trying to improve your perspective on situations and challenges. Look at challenges as opportunities and realize you can literally control how you process any situation by choosing to have a better perspective.

Conclusion

Imagine sitting in a meeting at work, totally alert, totally relaxed, into what you are doing and feeling great. Or, imagine going through your daily routine in the best frame of mind never getting worked up or feeling overwhelmed.  This is not only possible, but really is what we should be experiencing on an everyday basis.  It is great if we can feel amazing when we are on vacation, relaxing by a pool or walking through a beautiful park.  We should expect to feel that way when we are doing those things.  The key is to be able to maintain that frame of mind when you are just having a regular day or even if you are in the midst of a challenge.  This is how we really set ourselves up to live in a great way…when we can do the regular everyday things or manage whatever comes our way with grace and the best frame of mind…that is the alternaview.

Do you agree with this alternaview?  Do you have a great frame of mind throughout the day?

Hi Sibyl, thanks for pointing this out. Even when vacation ends, it doesn’t mean that our frame of mind for happiness should end as well. We can choose how we think from the minute we wake up to the minute we fall asleep everyday, and choosing to think positively or having the best frame of mind we can come up with will help keep us in a good mood no matter what we are doing.

Hulbert: Thanks for the comment. What you said is one of my main beliefs that I always remind myself of…we can choose how we think from the minute we wake up to the minute we fall asleep. This is such an important realization and once we realize that we have more control than we may have initially thought over our mind, thoughts and feelings, we are more apt to use that control in a positive and constructive way. Thanks again for the comment. Have a great weekend. Sibyl

HI Sibyl. I absolutely could not do this when I was busy and had taken too much on, children, full time job, committees, you name it I did it. Watching your mindset takes time and energy and commitment and when my time was taken up with so many other things that took up that energy I had no show.
I have drastically culled my amount of activities and yes although I thought I couldn’t of course I could. Now I have time and energy I can take time and energy for checking my mind, my body posture, for Self Care.
For me it was a vicious circle until I had the guts to step out of it, then the things you mentioned became doable.

Wilma: Thanks for this comment. I think that is a really helpful insight. When you have way too much going on and you have fallen into the trap of allowing it to absorb you, you are right that you can get lost in all that you are doing. I think you really do have to make certain you are setting yourself and your life up in such a way that you can more easily maintain a frame of mind. This is definitely a skill that has to be developed and strengthened and often times we may not even start to work on it if we are too caught up with all the activities we are engaging in. Thanks for that practical insight and learning experience.

Sibyl it’s quite correct that it’s how we look at things like work v time off, holiday v normal routines, good times v not so good. We are fixated with filing things in our mind as good or bad. Things just are – it’s called life and to view it otherwise is to welcome stress, anxiety and pressure.

Life ebbs and flows like a tide, like night and day, and has many moments of wonder mixed with uncertainty. But it is all part of the picture. Life is fun and adventure so keep your outlook realistic and less black and white.

Today is just today. Nothing else. And if you must be on a beach at some point and think life is good remember you worked for it, you chose it and now you are enjoying it. Whatever way you look at it there are clouds and silver linings. Just keep that in mind.

John: Thanks for the comment. It is so great to have you commenting here. I really liked what you said about life ebbing and flowing with many moments of wonder mixed with uncertainty. And, you are so right that is is all a part of our picture. It is about accepting the moment and whatever comes your way and figuring out how to embrace it. Whether it is vacation or a rainy day, we have to train ourselves to be able to always be fully ourself regardless of what is going on around us.

I love this article! Our perception is key to the way we experience things in life. I love the idea of working on our frame of mind on a consistent basis. When we come down off the “high” of vacation or down time, that is one of the toughest times to bounce back up. But if we’re conditioned to be in the right frame of mind always and not just on vacation or downtime time then life would be much greater. I love the idea here, thanks for sharing!!

Jarrod: Thanks for the comment. I am glad that you agree with the idea of conditioning ourselves to maintain the best frame of mind…even when vacation ends or we are no longer enjoying downtime. I think this can really be key to living a great life everyday and as you said, it is something we need to do on a consistent basis. I do think that we get better and better at it overtime so it is all about making the initial commitment and then working at it until it becomes our continual reality. Thanks again for the comment.

We should intend to have a good day everyday. Vacations are great because we’re doing something we love…if we learn to love our work, families, or lives more then we can have a happier mindset. Being grateful for what we have is important too.

Faizal: Thank you for the comment. I think you make a great point about appreciating everything that is around us. That definitely helps us to get into and maintain the best frame of mind. It is all about learning to maintain our great frame of mind from in our everyday lives. Thank you again for the comment. I really appreciate it.

Hi Sibyl,
You make some great points here. One can see the insanity of only being at their best on vacation… that would mean 99% of the time we are just trying to cope and survive. The insanity is most people believe that that’s just the way it is. I feel it is essential to convert our “hard work” into a “labor of love.” Dramatically reacting to challenges has everything we do feel like an obligation. The same challenge with a different approach gives a very different experience. Successful and happy achievers gain all there is to gain, because they give all there is to give.

Rob: Thank you for the comment and Welcome to the alternaview. It is great to have you here and I am a committed fan of mindadventure.com. I really liked what you said about converting our hard work into a labor of love. I think that is so important and whether that means changing what we do or just changing our perspective, it is so important that we find a way to enjoy and love what we are doing. We are going to spend so much time everyday doing it so we have to find a way to really make it a labor of love. Thanks again for the comment.

I actually have everyday to do just that
in the midst of traffic!
If I choose to close my eyes
I savor each breath
and check how my heart is at the moment.
Otherwise, affirmations are all in my head,
it is all good.
Thanks again Sibyl for your wonderful frame of mind. :)

There are actually lots of particulars like that to take into consideration. That could be a nice point to carry up. I provide the ideas above as basic inspiration however clearly there are questions like the one you carry up the place a very powerful factor will probably be working in sincere good faith. I don?t know if finest practices have emerged around things like that, however I’m certain that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both girls and boys really feel the affect of only a moment’s pleasure, for the remainder of their lives.
