Slow and steady wins the race. Take things one step at a time. Slowly, but surely. This is all common advice people give when it comes to accomplishing things. And, while this advice is good and should be followed the majority of the time, there is an alternaview we should be aware of.
Increasing Productivity The alternaview
Sometimes, not only is it okay, but it is actually necessary to turn things up a gear when you really want to accomplish a lot. While it is definitely true that you don’t want to push yourself too hard or for too long, sometimes a boost of momentum and progress in the right direction is actually needed. The key is to be strategic about it, have a solid approach and commit to doing it only for a certain period of time.
And, that is what this 30 day alternaview challenge is all about. I am taking the 30 day alternaview challenge and am asking you to take it with me.
We all have those things we have been wanting to get done for some time. If we could just complete them, we would feel great, we would have accomplished a lot and we would have taken a major step forward in the direction we desire.
However, perhaps we have gotten bogged down with all the day-to-day things we have to do and just haven’t had an opportunity to take care of these things. Or, maybe we just haven’t made the type of progress we know is necessary if we really want to accomplish something. Whatever the case may be, now is the time to really get some things done and make some significant progress.
And, this can all be done in just 30 days.
When people caution you to not be too hard core and not to over exert yourself, they do so because it is possible to push yourself too hard and burn yourself out. However, if you are smart about it and you pace yourself, you can integrate a month of real dedication and hard work and not risk any of the negative side effects that occur when you over exert yourself.
The great thing is that at the end of this 30 day challenge you will have made so much progress and really taken a major step forward.
How to use this alternaview:
1. Commit to 30 days. You have to make a commitment to up your intensity for 30 days and be willing to do things a little differently than you have in the past. Commit to the challenge and changing things up just for 30 days. Commit to doing anything and everything you can to accomplish things for the next 30 days.
2. Create Your 30 Day To Do List. What are you going to do over the next 30 days? What have you been putting off that you should really take care of? What extra things can you do to really push you in the direction you desire? What steps can you take during the next 30 days that will help get you to where you ultimately want to be? Answer these questions and put together a list of things you are going to do. Make certain you don’t put too much on the list since you only have 30 days. But, also make certain that you have enough on the list that will push you to kick things up a gear.
3. Create Extra Time. Take a look at your schedule and commitments and figure out where you can find extra time. Can you wake up an hour earlier? Can you go to sleep a little later? Can you give up watching tv or surfing the internet? You will be amazed at how much time is available for you to use if you are open minded about changing your routine and doing things differently.
4. Make a Plan. Figure out how you are going to get everything on your list done in 30 days. What does that mean you are going to have to accomplish everyday? How much do you need to get done every week? Are you going to have to make substantial progress on the weekends when you do have more free time? Map out how everything needs to fall into place.
5. Morning Motivation Periods. Wake up every morning and remind yourself that you are in a 30 day challenge and that you are committing to doing anything and everything you can for the day. Also remind yourself that you are only doing this for 30 days. This allows you to motivate yourself, but also to not feel overwhelmed that this is going to go on forever. Remind yourself that you can definitely commit to really turning it up a notch for just 30 days.
6. Constant Reality Checks. There may come a time during the 30 day challenge that you feel you aren’t making enough progress. Even though you have stepped things up a notch, you may feel you aren’t seeing the results you desired or you may have fallen off your schedule and not accomplished as much as you wanted. Make sure you are having reality checks and realizing you are making good progress. Don’t get caught up in false deadlines. Yes, it is important to stick to your plan as much as possible, but the reality is that if you can just successfully stick to your plan 70% of the time, you are still going to make very significant progress.
7. Give Yourself Credit Everyday. You are going to be working hard during the challenge time and so it is extremely important to recognize and give yourself credit for all the things you are doing. There are so many people that would never even think of making this commitment and dialing up their intensity for a 30 day challenge. You should give yourself credit everyday for taking this challenge. Realize that not only are you going to accomplish so much, but also that you really are doing something great.
8. Stop after 30 days. At the end of 30 days you are going to feel great and be amazed at how much you have accomplished. You are probably going to have a moment where you think you should stay in this more intensified gear for another 30 days. Don’t do it. After the 30 days is up, it is time to shift down a gear or two. If you are feeling like you do want to work a little harder than you have in the past, that is okay. However, you can’t continually run at 10 mph on the treadmill. It’s okay to have these more intense periods, but don’t do them back to back. You should mix them in so that you don’t end up pushing yourself too hard.
Conclusion
Come on and join me in this alternaview challenge. Why not? There is always a reason for everything and there is a reason you are reading this post. You can really take a major step forward in just 30 days. Yes, it is great to work slow and steady and take lots of baby steps over a long period of time, but a quantum leap forward never hurt anyone…that is the alternaview.
