Why You Actually Are More Successful if You Don’t Work Too Hard

I have the perfect solution for you if you want to be successful, productive and produce high quality work today. I can guarantee you will have the perfect day at work, you will create some of your best work, and your boss will be impressed (or if you work for yourself, you will even impress yourself).

And, the solution is not what you expect.

It is a common belief that in order to be successful and produce our best results, we have to work really hard. The more you work, the better and the more hours you put in, the higher the likelihood is that you will be successful.

I used to absolutely believe that. In fact, I thought an advantage I had was that I was one of the few crazy people in the world that was willing to literally work to exhaustion. I was convinced that if I put in more and more hours, there was no way I couldn’t be successful.

Oh, how wrong I was.

Success is not just all about hard work. Just because you work around the clock, doesn’t necessarily mean you are going to successfully accomplish what you want.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Working hard and giving something your all is important. You can’t expect to be a slacker and have things magically fall into place for you.

That is definitely also not how it works.

However, those people that experience continual success and do not get burned out, have customized the perfect daily routine that generates the most success, and their days are not totally consumed 100% with their work.

They have well rounded lives and they recognize the importance of also doing those things that will allow their creativity and passion to flourish.

It is not that they are not hard workers or that they are not disciplined, but rather they strike the perfect balance in their life of working hard and also doing other things they enjoy that stimulate their creativity, positive energy and most importantly preserve their great state of mind.

They are then able to consistently have the best mindset and pour that positive energy and creativity into their work and that significantly impacts what they create.

I have personal experience and know for sure that when you overdo things, you can start chipping away at your passion and positive energy and if that happens, it really doesn’t matter how many hours you work, it will be difficult to be successful.

Your mindset, positive energy and the passion you have for something are three of the most important factors that determine success.

They serve as the foundation for everything that will allow you to create really good work and they are directly tied to your motivation, inspiration and discipline. They also help to keep you persistent and on the right path even when things get challenging or obstacles come your way.

I have personally put this theory to the test and my results were ten times better when I was more well rounded, had a great mindset, and kept the positive energy flowing versus those times I worked relentlessly and around the clock.

It is not that I didn’t successfully accomplish things when I was working nonstop, but I have no doubt that I would have accomplished so much more and really improved the quality of my work if I had prioritized maintaining a great mindset and positive energy.

So, if you are not already doing so, starting today, make it a priority to focus on doing whatever you can to stimulate your passion and positive energy.

You will be amazed at your results and how the quality of what you are creating will immediately improve. You have to figure out what works best for you, but oftentimes it will mean you work a little less and make time in your day for other things you really enjoy doing.

What You Should Start Doing Today (if you aren’t already):

1.Take a look at how you feel as you go through your day. Do you have positive energy continually flowing? Do you have a great mindset the majority of the day? Figure out if you need to unplug or unwind a little more so that you can continually have a good mindset and positive energy flowing?

2. How many hours are you really working?  Take note of the actual amount of hours you are working. Are you overdoing it?

3. Make a list of activities that are natural stimulators for your positive energy. Do you enjoy spending time with your family and friends, exercising, reading or writing? How much of your day do you actually get to do these things? Do you need to increase the time?

4. Never feel guilty that you are not working and instead spending time doing things that preserve your mindset and get your positive energy flowing. Doing these things and having a great mindset and positive energy are just as important, if not more, than working. Yes, you have to still put in the work, but you also have to make certain you are creating the ideal conditions so that you can produce your best work.
