Are you a “100 percenter?” Are you one of those people that is always giving your all and doing absolutely every single thing to the very best of your ability? Do you do everything with the utmost attention to detail and pour all your passion and positive energy into whatever is in front of you? Let me tell you why you absolutely want to be a “100 percenter”.
Let’s be honest, it can be easy to fall into the trap of having those days where we just go through the motions. It is not that we don’t have the best intentions and that we aren’t dedicated to what we are doing, but for one reason or another we find ourselves sometimes just checking the box.
It happens to the best of us.
However, if we are just checking the box, we are not being a “100 percenter” and you definitely want to always be a “100 percenter”. Why?
Because that is how you experience the most consistent success and have the most satisfaction.
In fact, one of the secrets of people who continually have success after success is that they are all “100 percenters”. They are always giving all they can to just about everything they do.
Well, that’s obvious right? That is not by any means a secret. Everyone knows that successful people always give 100%. But, what does really being a “100 percenter” mean because it may not be as obvious as it seems?
It doesn’t simply mean you work around the clock. It also doesn’t mean you just give 100% to the goals you are trying to accomplish.
When you are really satisfying the definition and can be labeled as a genuine “100 percenter”, you literally give every single thing you do all that you can. You give everything the attention it deserves.
You have developed the great habit of doing everything impeccably, whether it is your work, your exercise routine, having a conversation with a friend or stranger, cleaning the house or even something as small as returning an e-mail.
You don’t just casually go through your day.
As a result, you literally have a positive impact on everything you touch because you have given it everything you can. You are not only a hard worker and really go after and pursue your goals with passion and diligence, but you also have the utmost attention to detail when it comes to anything and everything else.
You are just all around disciplined and diligent. That is what it really means to be a “100 percenter”.
The greatest thing is that if you aren’t already a “100 percenter”, you can literally change how you go about things TODAY and start qualifying as a “100 percenter”. You will see the immediate positive impacts on everything you do by upping your game and doing things with the greatest attention to detail.
As time goes on, you will see the long term benefits, and like the other special people that are “100 percenters”, you will also experience continued success in the most important areas of your life.
Is this a bit of an overstatement? No way … try it out today.
You will love the results you get and how great you feel.
What to do differently Today (if you aren’t already):
1. Always go above and beyond the call of duty. Give your job (or whatever else it is you do) your all and do things with the right amount of intensity and effort, no matter how big or small. No more going through the motions or checking the box. Every task matters and deserves your complete attention.
2. Really engage in conversations. Listen to your colleagues, friends, family and anyone else you come into contact with throughout the day. Really pay attention to what they are saying, ask questions and be into the conversation.
3. Pour your passion and energy into whatever is currently in front of you, even if it is the simplest or most mundane task. Really focus all your attention on what you are doing and don’t try to multitask or allow yourself to be distracted. Do one thing at a time … really, really well.
4. Don’t allow needless thoughts to run through your mind. Be disciplined with your thinking and don’t allow things to run through your mind because you need to completely focus on whatever is currently in front of you. Don’t get distracted with thoughts about all the things you need to do or how someone is annoying or frustrating you. Always focus your mind on what you are doing at that moment.
Live today better than yesterday …
#4 is easier said than done especially if you’re a man and surrounded by beautiful women during the day… biology simply makes it too hard to concentrate on the task at hand
Henway: Okay, that is an honest response
I think if you make this a goal, you can strengthen your ability to stay focused and once you do that, you will be so happy with the results you get that you will not allow yourself to get distracted. Thanks for the comment.
Sibyl,
Jk has recently challenged me to start giving a lot more than what is expected. It is in no way an easy task but by taking his advice and giving 120% or more I am starting to see things in my professional life turn in my favor.
Now one thing I really need to to is improve my active listening skills because I like to get to a solution sometimes before I fully understand the problem. So, that tip you gave is critical in my life. I also am trying to learn to do things one item at a time and I break my big projects down to micro steps and it has helped my productivity.
This was a great read with some solid tips. Thanks.
Instead of doing all of the work myself I think one other tip is to hire someone to do your work for you.
That’s how you increase productivity!
Frank: Now that sounds like a great challenge from JK
I am sure you have seen the positive impacts of really giving more than 100% to the things you do. It just dramatically improves how you go about everything and sets you apart from so many other people that aren’t willing to give 100%. Congrats on that. Thanks so much for the comment and stopping by.
Sibyl,
Another great article with great advice. It’s hard to keep up the momentum of giving 100% all the, especially if you have too much going on. It’s best to scale down and focus on only your top projects for a while until they’re completed. That way you ensure that you do have the 100% to give.
Angela: Really good point. I do think you have to prioritize because the most important thing is to be able to give things 100%. If you are all over the place and focusing on too much, that is just not possible. Thanks for sharing your insights. Much appreciated.
Hi Sibyl,
You know the biggest take away for me in this article relates to the power of focus. When you truly focus on what’s in front of you – your productivity skyrockets! People don’t realize how distracted they are all of the time. If you give you complete time an attention to a task at hand you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish.
Marlee: I totally agree with what you said. You really can make your productivity sky rocket by focusing on what is in front of you and putting all your attention and energy into it. That is really what it is all about. Thanks so much for the comment. Much appreciated.
Hi Sibyl,
I love this article because I LOVE knowing that MY actions are what dictate MY results. I’m willing to work hard and long for what I want. When I realized that I’m the driver of my journey, I thought it was an absolute blessing.
Your advice can’t be argued. At least I can’t argue it.
And, I always need a friendly reminder of how to step my game up – because sometimes I find myself in the weeds!
Thank you!
You … in the weeds. I highly doubt it
I loved what you said about your actions dictating your results. A very powerful statement and it is so true. I think once we really realize that, there is no holding us back. Thanks so much for the comment JK.
Absolutely!
In everything you do, you should always be a 100 Percenter, because that IS how you live life. By always giving 100% you truly experience a magical life, because you learn your potential and you positively affect those around you. Incredible post!
Mike: Thanks for the comment. I couldn’t agree more. It is all about giving your all and putting all you can into whatever it is you are doing. Thanks again for the comment and for stopping by.
