If You Want Things to Happen, It's Time To Dream

“We can do only what we think we can do. We can be only what we think we can be. We can have only what we think we can have. What we do, what we are, what we have, all depend on what we think.”

Robert Collier

I am really feeling this quote today. It is totally resonating with me. It’s just gotta be true … everything we do, what we are and what we have are all a result of what we think. Do you agree?

I have seen this truth play out over and over again in my life. There have been those times where I dreamt big, had confidence, and went after what I wanted, and like magic it appeared in my life. It became my reality. Voila, your wish has been granted.

There have also been those times when I cut myself short and thought something was just too big for me to accomplish. I was consumed with fear, and again, like magic what I feared would happen came true. Crap! my fear has been granted.

Life is all about living and learning … right?

From here on out I am going to follow this truth. I will dream big dreams and be the ultimate believer that if I do everything I am supposed to, the dreams will eventually come true.

And, let me tell you, the timing of this realization couldn’t be any better.

I have a lot of balls up in the air right now. It is time to make some dreams come true and I bet this is a perfect time for you to make some come true also. Who isn’t interested in having their dreams come true?

So …

We have to keep this truth top of mind.

We have to dream big dreams and go for what we want. It is the way the process works and how we really create the life we want. This is the time to take advantage of that reality.

Everything that has ever been created began as a dream … every accomplishment, every triumph, every success started off as just an idea.

Why on earth wouldn’t we follow this same formula for success?

Because we are hesitant to dream too big? Because we think we have to be practical? Because other people tell us we are not being realistic? Because we are afraid of being disappointed if we don’t get what we want?

Those are all excuses that create limiting beliefs that only hold us back from accomplishing what we are really capable of.

It is time to dream those big dreams.

We all have wayyyyyy more potential than we have ever imagined, but we have to dream big, go after what we want and tap into our potential; otherwise it is wasted and just goes unused.

So, today is the day …

  • Let go of being realistic for awhile and just dream about whatever it is you really want
  • Have confidence in your ability to get it
  • Take action and do your part (Sorry, it will not just drop in your lap)
  • Acknowledge any fears, but push through them and always keep this truth top of mind … everything we do, what we have, and who we are depends on what we dream and what we think

Live Today Better than Yesterday.

This is a great message, but again, I’ve faced many disappointments in my life. my problem is not dreaming big – I have lots and lots of dreams. The problem is that when my expectations are too high, I eventually become disappointed and the low is very very demoralizing. It leads to depression, and a negative attitude towards life.

Hey Henway: Thanks for the comment and the honesty. I totally hear what you are saying. It can take some undoing to break out of old patterns that work against us and it is an easy trap to fall into. You are definitely not alone. I think the key is to recognize the pattern and the issue and really start doing what you can to reprogram yourself. You really do have more control over your mind and your thoughts than it may seem. The good thing is that you have the dreaming thing down :) now all you have to do is work on the other part. Thanks again for the comment.

The Buddha once said “With out thoughts, we make the world” this quote has always inspired me. I create my own life based on my thoughts, but I can also help make the world a better place and I can change what I think is wrong if I focus on it.

Daniel: It is so true that you create your own reality based on your thoughts. I love that Buddha quote you shared. It’s a good one and definitely one to always keep top of mind. Thanks so much for the comment and stopping by.

Hey Roman: How have you been? Good to hear from you and thanks so much for the comment. So glad that you liked the post and found it inspiring. I appreciate the kind words and feedback.

    Sibyl,
YES we can! I love this post and the upbeat vibe I’m getting. There is nothing we cannot achieve if we dare to dream and then DO Something about it!

A dream is just a diamond in the rough until we take action!

Angela: It really is all about dreaming isn’t it? I know you definitely believe that along with of course always following your intuition :) We are totally on the same page with this one. Thanks for the comment and for stopping by.

    Sibyl, Best lines ever:

“Viola, your wish has been granted.”

    OR

“Crap, my fear has been granted.”

I think that is worth printing out….great reminder!! I love wishes much better than fear, so I am starting now….I could even use dandelions out my back yard!

Thanks for an excellent reminder about the power of positive thinking, dreaming big, and most importantly, TAKING ACTION!

    Love,
    Jen

Hey Jen. I love wishes much better than fears too:) It is all about doing the right things that will support our wishes and chase our fears away. Thanks for the comment and for stopping by.

    Hi Sibyl,
It all starts with a thought…….Think the right thoughts, then believe in & commit to those thoughts. Dreaming, visualising…….it’s all great food for your thought processes. Thanks for this inspiring post.
    be good to yourself

It all starts with a thought … I love that line you used David. It is so true. So glad that you liked the post and found it inspiring. Thanks for the comment and for stopping by.

Sibyl – Thank you so very much for this incredibly inspiring post. You have no idea how badly I needed to read this!

I have a *big* dreaml…..and therefore *big* fears (funny how they are so connected!) and have been listening to my fears more than my dreams. I want to stop that and start moving through it to action. Can’t wait!

    Thanks again :-)

    • 14

Merna: I think that is a great approach. Why focus on your fears when you can turn all your attention to your dreams and what you want. That really is a prerequisite to making them become a reality. So glad that the post was inspiring and pointed you in the right direction :) Thanks for letting me know.

That’s such an inspiring post Sibyl
i still remember that day (6 years ago) when the plan for my business was just a dream on a paper
you are right, everything starts as a dream :)

    • 16

Yeah…and look at where you are now :) Everything has to begin somewhere. It is so true. Thanks for sharing your comment Farouk.

We are the makers of our fate, as the saying goes. It’s interesting, Sibyl, how we don’t achieve whatever we want to achieve, and then blame it on external forces. We blame other people, our bosses, the politics, our economy, etc.

Why not accept that what happens, is meant to happen for a reason. There are no coincidences in this world, no such thing as luck. Wouldn’t it be better to look for the opportunities in whatever happens, rather than focusing on the bad?

Our thoughts shape our lives. If our thoughts aren’t looking out for opportunity, we won’t find opportunity ;-)

    • 18

Stuart: You are so right. If our thoughts aren’t looking for the opportunity, then there is no way we are going to find it. We have to believe and put things in our mind as an initial step. Without that, there is no way we can create what we desire. Thanks for the comment.

    Hi Sibly,

Wonderful post my friend. All accomplishement today were someone’s dream at one point from cellphones to airplanes to computers etc… We can really be anything we want to be if we change ourselves internally. If we overcome our limiting thoughts, examine the root cause, make a solid decision, visualize, and really believe and have faith, then we will achieve what we want and desire. We have got to take responsibility for our lives. Thanks for sharing my friend, excellent post. :)

    • 20

Hey Dia: Thanks for the comment and I loved everything you had to say. You summed it up perfectly and are so right that it is all about believing in ourselves and chipping away at any limiting beliefs that may be working against us.

  11. 21

    Hi Sibyl,

I was doing some reading today on beliefs and how they affect our reality. Belief systems are self- re-enforcing mechanisms.

If we have a belief that says that we can do anything and that the world is our oyster, than we will create that. The same goes for self-limiting beliefs as well.

    • 22

Justin: I couldn’t agree more. We really can do so much just based on our beliefs and what we decide is possible. Once we convince ourselves, then that is when we can create whatever it is we desire and work hard at. Thanks for the comment and dropping by.

    Sibyl,

This is true – if we dare to dream big, we get BIG results!

One of my favorite quotes is by of Michelangelo and it goes like this:

“The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.”

    Cheers,
    Timo

    • 24

Timo: I love that quote by Michelangelo. It really points us in the direction of always making certain we are reaching for those big dreams and not settling or thinking we aren’t capable of doing something. Thanks for sharing it here.

    Sibyl,

I just had a conversation with a good friend about the lessons inside the book of Job. There are quite a few that most people walk away with after reading: “friends can give you bad advice, bad things happen to good people (theodecy), patience is essential, don’t always listen to your wife (lol), etc.”

Yet, in the midst of all of these lessons there is ONE that trumphs the rest.

Job 3:25 For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

    THE LESSON: “BE FEARLESS”

Your post and this passage overlap in that they point the reader towards the same truth. Having fears give room for failure and torment. We MUST conquer our fears and use whatever tools we have available to build our confidence. At the end of the day, fear is always a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Thanks for this reminder. YOUR PAGE ROCKS!

    • 26

Wow…thanks Jermaine for that great comment filled with so much wisdom. I really do think that learning to be fearless and overcoming our fears is such an important lesson. As you mentioned, our fears are there to be conquered and for us to transcend. There is so much we can learn about how we are and our true ability when we commit to breaking down our fears. Thanks for the wonderful comment again and for stopping by.

    Hi Sibyl,

Reading this post tonight has also resonated with me. I was really thrown off track this week but it is time to get after that big dream of mine, thanks.

    • 28

Todd: So glad to hear that the post inspired you to go after that big dream. Go for it … It will probably be one of the best things you have done. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    Hi Sibyl,

We are what we eat and we are what we think. So much in life depends on how we nourish ourselves both in terms of body and more importantly, mind.

The world as we have it today is shaped by many visions of successful people. It is because of their courage to dream and to defy convention that we have come thus far as a collective race. In every generation, there is always the temptation to rest on our laurels and remain in our comfort zones because it is safe and familiar. But we cannot afford this because change is the only constant in life. To progress, we must be willing to dream, to risk and to change. For this, we will need a vision of all that we can be.

Thank you for showing us how to live today better than yesterday! :)

“To progress, we must be willing to dream, to risk and to change. ” I love this statement Irving. That really is what it is all about. What a great way to put it. Thanks for the comment and stopping by.
