How You Keep Pursuing What You Want When the Going Gets Tough

“Far away in the sunshine are my highest inspirations. I may not read them, but I can look up and see the beauty, believe in them and try to follow where they lead.” Louisa May Alcott

Have you ever been working really hard to accomplish a goal or make something happen and then one of “those days” where you just feel tired and drained sneaks up on you?

You have been working really hard and trying to take steps each day, but all of your hard work is beginning to take its toll and it doesn’t really feel like there is an end in sight.

These are the days where you can begin questioning yourself, your ability to accomplish what you want, and if all you are doing is ever going to payoff.

These are also the days when quitting or throwing in the towel may seem to be an option.

Well, if you have ever had one of these days, trust me, you are not alone.

A lot of us run into those times where we are not really feeling motivated to keep up the hard work and keep moving in the direction we want to go.

And, that is why it is so important to have a way to manage through these days.

You never want to allow one (or even several) not so great days to interfere or hold you back from accomplishing what you want.

So, what do you do when one of these days sneaks up on you?

One of the most important things to do is to tap into your inspiration and keep the faith that you will accomplish what you want.

You may not be able to see a lot of tangible signs of your future success. You may be feeling a little worn down. You may be beyond tired.

But, you can choose to focus your mind and do things that will inspire you to keep going.

how to tap into your inspiration (on one of “those days”):

  1. Keep your mind on what you want. Spend some time thinking about how great it will be when you do finally accomplish what you want. Allow your mind to focus on that for a little while and get reenergized.
  2. Take the day off. While it is important to continually take steps in the right direction, it is equally important to not push yourself too hard. Seriously consider taking one or several days off. Give yourself a mini-vacation.
  3. Remind yourself “Why”. You can reignite your passion and recharge by reminding yourself why something is so important to you. Think back to the first day when you decided to go after what you wanted and tap into that passion.
  4. Think about how far you have come. Recognize your accomplishments thus far. Don’t overlook one single step you have taken in the right direction … the little ones definitely count. Make sure you are giving yourself the credit you deserve for making progress and are focusing on those things that are working.
  5. Relax. Take some time to just rest and find your center. Do things that allow you to relax – walk, yoga, meditate, read or just enjoy the silence.
