“We can’t become what we need to be by remaining what we are.” Oprah Winfrey
Are you really taking advantage of all of the possibilities of today?
This is a question I ask myself regularly (hence the name of this blog) and I really do think it’s a good one to ask yourself from time to time.
Why?
Because it helps you make sure you aren’t getting so caught up with all that is going in your life that you forget about everything that really is possible for you.
And, one thing that is absolutely possible for us is to create something we have never created before. To open the door to something new.
Whether it is a new experience, a new way of seeing or doing something, or going after something we want, really doesn’t matter.
What is most important is that it is something new that challenges us to open our minds and pushes us beyond our comfort zone.
We have the ability every single day to choose what we do and what we experience.
We can be adventurous, inquisitive and explore new territories or we can continue to do what we always have done and get what we always have gotten.
Let’s be real. No one just wants the same old same old.
That’s when we end up getting stuck in holding patterns and look up one day and wonder where all the time went.
It’s not that we don’t absolutely enjoy and appreciate everything we have and all that we have experienced. That always is a must.
It’s just that we decide we are going to approach each day with an adventurous spirit and seek out new possibilities that will continually stimulate and invigorate us.
When we have this type of mindset, we are really living and experiencing everything that life offers in the greatest way.
We are innovative and creative.
We are continually growing.
We are at our best.
how do you do it?
- Use Your Imagination. Is there something you want to create or accomplish? Is there something you want to learn? Is there an experience you want to have? Don’t be afraid to dream that is why we have an imagination.
- Determine One Thing to Do Everyday. At the beginning of the day, ask yourself how you are going to take advantage of the possibility to do something new? What one thing are you going to do today (even just a small step counts)?
- Schedule it. Figure out exactly when you are going to actually complete this step. The best way to make sure the day doesn’t slip by without you taking the step you decide is to reserve a time when you can actually do what you planned. Make sure it happens. No excuses.
- Value the opportunity. Realize just how cool it is that you have the ability every single day to do something new and to grow. Never take that for granted and make sure you are doing everything you can to take advantage of it.
Live Today Better than Yesterday.
Please leave a comment and let me know your thoughts. I always love to hear and learn from them. Or, if you just want to say hello, that absolutely works as well. And, as always, feel free to send me an e-mail at sibylchavis@gmail.com. It’s always great to hear from you.
I love the simple mantra “Live today better than yesterday.” It is poignant. Powerful. Simple. Elegant. Just perfect! Great job!

Hey Gary: So glad that you liked it:) Thanks for the kind words and thanks for dropping by.
Hi Sibyl,
Thank you for this. Each morning as I arise and firstly say my ”thank you’s”, then I proceed to light my internal spark. Ignition time, then blast through the day. I imagine my day, the night before…..Imagination is way cool.
be good to yourself
David
Hey David: Thanks so much for the comment and I love that morning routine you shared. I think that is a great way to start the day. Thanks so much for the comment and for stopping by.
Hello,
Hello,
I think this is great. There is a lot of truth to it you can always be better with every day if you work at it. There is a lot I am working on and I try to visualize it keep me on track. I want to be fit like a fitness model, have my own business “Well and Fit 4 you” and help other people be fit and well and become a really good Life Coach. I have signed up at the age of 55 to get my bachelors degree which is a big undertaking but I think I am ready for this. Thanks for the words it is great.
Candace: What a great comment. Thank you for sharing it. Hearing what you are doing is inspiring for all of us:) Congrats on signing up to get your degree. I am sure that will be very rewarding for you and I love the plan to have your own business … All great stuff:)
Hi Sibyl,
Inspiring post! I like to journal at least three pages a day and while I’m doing that, or while exercising ideas come that I want to explore. I’m at a point in my life where I just go with the flow and explore any and all ideas that sound interesting. Being creative is what it is all about.
I think that is so cool and great that you work on your creativity and let it flow every single day. It really is so important. I also think it is great that you have reached the point where you just go with the flow. That really is what it is all about. Thanks so much for the comment and for dropping by.
Hi Sibyl,
The challenges of everyday life can get to us and sooner or later we find ourselves reacting instead of looking at the bigger picture. This is why I like your reminder. We need to ask ourselves from time to time if we are taking advantage of all the possibilities of today. We need to ask ourselves if we are seizing the moments. Each moment presents unique opportunities that will pass us by if we do not seize them.
I love the 4 points you have listed on how to take advantage of all the possibilities today. I think using your imagination is vital. We all see the same things day in day out. But it takes true creativity and imagination to see the same thing in a different way to grasp the possibilities of the moment.
One way I like to take advantage of the possibilities today is to find inspiration to do so. Whether this is reading about something or the actions of someone, I will reflect on how I can use these experiences to take advantage of the possibilities today.
Thank you for showing us how to live today better than yesterday!
Irving the Vizier
Hey Irving: Always great to hear your wisdom in the comments. I really appreciated what you said about finding the inspiration. It really is important to realize that we have to feel passionate and inspired to pursue all the possibilities of today. It’s all about staying in the flow:) Thanks so much for the comment.
Hi Sibyl!
Such an inspiring post! I feel like I can go out and do something truly important today! And you know what? I can! I especially liked the recommendation to schedule our planned “possibility.” That’s so important because so often I know I think up some new adventure in life or something I think would be pretty cool and it just never quite gets off the consideration stage. It idles indefinitely. And we all know what that means … it doesn’t happen. Of course, this isn’t what I typically do, but there are times!
Thanks for the inspiring nudge to do more, to make more out of an already pretty wonderful life!
Hey Ken: I think the scheduling is key. I know that is what worked for me and allowed me to always keep it top of mind that I wanted to not just go through the motions. So glad that you liked the post and thanks for dropping by.
Hi Sibyl,
Imagination is very important if we want to achieve our goals. It is the preview of coming attraction as Albert Einstein brilliantly pointed. Each is a gift that we shouldn’t waste.
Thanks for the reminder my friend
I love that quote from Albert Einstein Dia. You are so right. Imagination really is key:) Thanks for the comment and for dropping by.
Great advice Sibyl, which I try to follow but sometimes forget when I get mired in the daily grind.
Prompted me to ring around a few contacts for new work. Thanks
Hey Chris: I think that is great that you realize you can get caught up in the daily grind. Once you know what is going on, you really can choose to make different decisions. Great idea about making those calls:)
Scheduling it–that’s the key. When I retired, I thought that I would have unlimited time. I know that sounds crazy now. I guess I thought that the 24 hour limit on the day would magically disappear! So I’ve learned in these months that if I want to do something, I need to write it down on my calendar, or on my to do list for the day.
Great tips, as always.
Oh Galen … how right you are:) I was literally laughing when I read your comment because I know exactly what you are talking about. The day will always slip away if you let it, no matter what you are doing:) Thanks so much for the comment and for dropping by.
