“Our ultimate freedom is the right and power to decide how anybody or anything outside ourselves will affect us.” Stephen R. Covey
I am so over letting the negative committee in my mind be the loudest voice in the room. Aren’t you? It just does nothing good for us.
The negative committee has been playing tricks on us since the beginning of time. It continually tries to get our attention and focus us on all the wrong things.
I will forgive him and move on once he really apologizes and realizes what he did wrong.
I am tired of waiting for things to work out. It’s time to get what I have been waiting and working for.
I still can’t believe she did that.
It’s too difficult. I just don’t think I am going to be able to really do it.
Things never work out the way I want them to.
These are all negative committee thoughts and if we let them, they are ready and willing to take center stage in our minds, overshadow the things that are good, and weigh us down.
So, that’s why I have decided to put a stop to the nonsense and of course I want you to join me. It’s time for us to clear out all the thoughts that clog our minds and distract us from focusing on what we really want and all that really is possible.
Get Rid of The Weeds
Today is the day to say enough is enough and get rid of it all – pettiness, unforgivingness, anger, frustration, doubt, fear, or whatever else the negative committee has invented. We can get rid of every single thought that is weighing us down, but we have to decide we really want to because it will not happen automatically.
We are going to have to commit to getting rid of that old mentality and be willing to really work at it. It’s like that great quote by Art Williams explains –
“I’m not telling you it’s going to be easy. I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it.”
And, it will be so worth it. There is so much out there that is just waiting for you. You are absolutely capable of accomplishing everything you want and living the life you have imagined. But, in order to do that, you’ve got to let go of all the thoughts that work against you.
Today is the day to start clearing the weeds from the path so you can get to all the good things that are trying their best to come your way.
The Possibility of Today
1. Get A New Perspective. Be willing to step back and look at whatever is bothering you in a new way. What is the bigger picture? Did you learn something you can take with you for the future? Stop focusing on what happened and start focusing on what is going to move you forward.
2. Start Focusing On Today. Step into this moment. Appreciate everything that is in front of you right now and all the Possibilities of Today. Pour all your passion and energy into today.
3. Remember How The Process Works. Remind yourself that you’ve got to open the door to all the good things that are waiting to come your way. You can’t waste anymore time on nonsense and the things that just weigh you down. It’s time to go.
Live Today Better than Yesterday.
Encouraging post! I love that quote by Art Williams. Rarely does anything worthwhile come easy, right?
I have a negative committee, too. I’ve been trying to evict it for a while now. Luckily, with work, I’ve learned to turn down its volume.
You are spot on when you say we have to purposely reign in negative thoughts. We have to choose to have a better perspective. It isn’t easy and we’ll always hit a snag or two. However, learning how to bog yourself down less with discouraging thoughts can help you bounce back more quickly from life’s curve balls.
Thank you for your post. Be well.
Thanks so much Janette for the comment. I was smiling when I read about you trying to evict your committee:) I tried to do that as well. I think though what you said about taming it and overshadowing it seems to work better:) You know no one likes to be evicted and will often retaliate:) Thanks again for the comment and for dropping by.
Pretty blog background, btw.
Thanks Janette:) I am so glad you like it.
I dont know how but the email came to me at point in my life when I needed a answer.thank you so much
Love this Sibyl. Besides practicing gratitude and optimism, I always think of awsome quotes that help me with this.
“What other people think of me is none of my business” “Forgiveness is letting go of all hopes for a better past”.
“Be the change you want to see in the world”
Positive change is possible. It is up to you and me. thanks again Sibyl. Graet stuff.
Take CARE.

Hey Al. Always great to hear from you. Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom here. I love all those quotes — some of my favorites. And, I couldn’t agree it really is all up to us as to how much we want to change. Thanks again for the comment and for dropping by.
I love the idea of the “negative committee” because it addresses the many tones and timbres that those nasty negative voices can come in! In my experience if I try to fight it, out reason it, trump it with positive thoughts or affirmations alone, it always wins. If I stop listening to the committee, but don’t try to stop, fight or resist it, I win. It never goes away (oh I’ve tried and tried to make it go away), but it never has to, now that I’ve changed my relationship with it, I run the committee! Great post once again Sibyl.
David: Thanks so much for the comment and you really make a great point. The key is to learn how to tame the committee and overshadow it. So glad you have found the perfect way of doing that:) Thanks so much for sharing your story and dropping by. Always appreciated.
Thank you Sibyl
So much in life is about how we receive incoming messages into the brain and how we choose to ‘save’ them and ‘respond’ with them.
The commitee lodged in the anterior celebral hemeisphere, the outer layer or cortex which comprises our ‘consciousness’ is only elected by self and *can* by self be recalled due to ‘No confidence’ or given ‘Incumbency’ due to confidence.
Example:
I got off work last night at 1:00 a.m. It was a double shift day that I completed. During the final hours the co-workers who’s commitee’s had *positive* agenda found within themselves focus, strength, supportivness and good humor.
I got a text message about an hour ago from my call steward with a new job assignment. I imeadiately responded my confirmation with *enthusiasm*.
*Enthusiasm* is contagious if we allow it to be…
So true Rand. It really is all about how we choose to look at situations and the energy we bring to them. I loved what you said — enthusiasm really is contagious. Thanks so much for the comment and for dropping by.
I didn’t realize how my own negative committee was running the show until I participated in a 21 days of no complaining challenge. Boy, was that eye opening! I really thought that I was a pretty positive person, but the negative thoughts were pretty pervasive. Thankfully, now that I’m aware of them, I can choose to switch them to happier thoughts. Thanks for this great post!
Knowledge really is power isn’t it Jodi? I participated in my own complaint free challenge and had the exact same realization. At least we know now:) Thanks so much for the comment and for dropping by.
I love how you coined the term “the negative committee.” Your ego is always there, the loudest in the room. It’s only when you are willing to notice that there is the other, quieter voice, the one called Intuition, whispering in the background, that you know you can simply tell your ego to shut up. You always win by bringing your mind to the present moment and listening to your intuition.
So true Julie. It really is all about quieting your mind enough to listen to the only voice that really matters and should ever be listened to:) I have to attribute the negative committee to Ann Bradford:) but I sooooo love that term. Thanks so much for the comment and for dropping by.
I fired the committee years ago… Although it wasn’t quite as easy as just saying the words.
In order to quiet the committee, I needed help, to rid myself of all past regrets, guilt, fears of the future, etc. which I wasn’t able to do just by saying it. I had to take action, I like the saying “you can’t think your way into good living, you must live your way into good thinking.”
For me the process was simple, but not comfortable. I used many resources, therapy, 12-step programs, books, etc. (oh and spent thousands of dollars on seminars). Basically it’s a purging (getting rid of the weeds) and realizing what is useful habits, thought patterns, and what is not providing any value to our lives. Getting rid of our “stories” and the realization that we’re not our past. Forms of what the Naguals (or spiritual masters) call recapitulation or the inventory and amends steps in recovery.
Getting rid of all the junk, taking out the trash, and accepting of self and becoming emotionally connected and loving towards me, allowed me to be rid of most fear, regret, and live in the moment. Plus, developing mindfulness was key, the ability to be a witness to my thoughts, an objective observer, and not be emotionally attachment to them or the outcomes of most situations. Knowing that fundamentally I have everything I need, I’m enough, and the committee can keep on conversing with ego but I’m just not really listening anymore. Eventually it get’s quieter.
Great post and thanks for sharing this with us!

Wow, that was refreshing and so true of the negative committee! Thank you for pointing out those negative thoughts so that I can show them the door of my mind!!! Get to stepping negative thoughts, I’m moving forward and you’re not welcome!
Get to stepping – LOL and totally right. No need to listen to things that aren’t true. So glad you liked the article Arlene. I appreciate you taking the time to drop by and comment.
