“Your life doesn’t get better by chance. It gets better by change.”
Isn’t it just so true that life is constantly changing? Think about where you are today and compare it to where you were 5 years ago. Things are different aren’t they?
For me, they are completely different — I live in a different place; I have a different job. Of course there are also new responsibilities, challenges, possibilities and a whole new set of goals and dreams that I have.
The one thing we know for sure is that life is going to continually change. And, what I
finally realized stumbled into is that since it is inevitable that life is going to change, the best thing we can and should do is make sure we are taking advantage of that reality.
We’ve got to choose to play a very active role when it comes to creating the future we want. If we don’t and we just sit back, things have a way of “just happening”.
We are literally wasting the power we have to shape the way things play out.
The trap that is so easy to fall into (I know I fell into it over and over again) is to not spend enough time focusing on the bigger picture because you get way too sucked into everything you currently have going on. You allow the majority of your attention to be monopolized by the day-to-day.
Everyday drama (dealing with conflict, managing issues that come up, relationship drama, etc.)
It’s not that these things aren’t important. They all need to be handled, resolved and dealt with. However, we’ve got to figure out a way to handle all the things we need to do without losing focus on the bigger picture. We’ve got to find a way to reserve some of our attention and energy to do those things that will allow us to create the future we want.
Easier said than done? Of course.
Create the Bigger Picture You Really Want
If we really want things to play out a certain way — if we want to accomplish those BIG things we want and Live Today Better than Yesterday, we’ve got to make sure we keep a part of our focus on growing and doing those things every single day that will actually move us in the direction of the bigger picture we want.
It’s like that great quote says –
“Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.” Will Rogers
That’s why I have committed to doing something every single day that will move me forward toward my bigger picture. And, as usual, I want you to join me. Maybe there’s been something you have always wanted, or perhaps you want to get rid of a bad habit, accomplish something big, or learn something new. Whatever the case may be, today is the day to start really taking advantage of your ability to shape and create your future. No more letting life “just happen” because you are too busy.
The Possibility of Today
1. Define what you want your future to look like. What does progress and success look like to you?
2. Handle the day-to-day things, but always keep the bigger picture top of mind. Don’t let the day just suck you in. Why are you really here? What do you just feel that you were meant to do?
3. Make a list of the things that you can literally do in the next 30 days that will move you at least one step closer to the bigger picture you really want. Commit to doing something every single day. Don’t just let time pass you by.
4. Stay Organized. It’s the only way to expand your bandwidth so you can redirect some of your attention to the bigger picture. You need a system and a great way to manage through the day. It’s essential. Check out this great system by Scott Dinsmore at Live Your Legend.
