“Life is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood.”
― Helen Keller
One of the things I am always trying to do is learn from the experiences that come my way. I just am not a fan of repeat lessons. Why experience the same types of issues over and over again when you could pay attention the first time and get the lesson?
Of course, that’s not to say I have always been able to do that. I have definitely had my fair share of repeat lessons where the same challenges would creep up because I needed to learn what I missed the time before.
But, once I realized that things don’t just happen “to us”, they also happen “for us” so that we can have certain realizations and live even better tomorrow, I really started paying attention.
Here are 5 of The Best Realizations To Have (in no particular order):
1. You Should Continually Rethink What’s Possible. There’s definitely a balance to be struck and although there is nothing more important than experiencing the moment in front of you and appreciating exactly where you are; you do want to make sure you are recognizing all that is really possible and going for what you really want.
2. There is a Possibility Spiral you must walk up if you want to get from where you are today to where you really want to be. You’ve got to use the days in front of you in the best way possible so you can continually move up your Possibility Spiral. Two important areas to focus on are: (1)What you’re doing each day to take a step in the direction you want to go (2) Having the best energy flowing by bringing your highest self to what you say, think and do.
3. There is something within each of us that is powerful and capable of so much. It’s like that great quote by Emerson explains – “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” Our job is to get more and more acquainted with that part of ourselves – our Extraordinary Side-so that we can feel it at all times as we move through each day.
4. Your mindset influences so much - how you feel, what you do and what you really believe is possible. We’ve got to work everyday to clear away limiting beliefs and negative thought patterns that we’ve built up over the course of our lifetime. It’s like weeding a garden and your job each day is to pick out as many weeds as you can. It takes discipline and effort, but once you remove the weeds, life really opens up.
5. We need to let our Extraordinary Side lead the way when it comes to all the aspects of our life. (1) Goals, work, career, success (2) Health & Fitness (3) Financial Success (4) Family & Relationships (5) Spirituality (6) Enjoying Life – “You Time” (7) Your Mindset (8) Your actions and behaviors. Be willing to bring your highest self to everything you think, say, or do.

Hi sibyl,
thank you sending this inspiring message. i have lost my way quite a bit in the last month with death , illness in the family and the end of a relationship. I am also stressing out at the 536 personal emails I still have to read and my huge 2 do /list and niggle lists….so reading your post i have decided to stop the day job for the afternoon and clear some of the clutter so that I can get back to a place to action your 5 keep points.
Thank you
Kindest jane
Hey Jane:) Thanks so much for the comment. I know it can be challenging when a lot of issues come your way so it’s okay if you got lost a little. The most important thing is exactly what you’re doing – just take some time to get things in place and you will be able to get back into the swing of things again. I have noticed that when I do things like what you mentioned in terms of clearing out the clutter, it really does help to get everything moving again and back on track. I actually just wrote an article that I am going to be publishing this week about taking “Time Ins”. These are just 5 minute periods of time that you integrate into your day to relax and inject some light. I would recommend those too:) Thanks again for the comment Jane and let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help.
Like the idea of the possibility spiral. We need to build on our sucesses and use them to help us get momentum towards where we want to be.
So glad you like the idea of the Possibility Spiral Peter. It’s actually a major topic in my latest book and I couldn’t agree more with what you said about generating momentum to get to where you want to be. I really think this is how we were designed to move through life:) Thanks so much for the comment and for dropping by.
Thanks for another amazing article. This message really resounds with me. My most recent realization is to help myself by helping others. To this effort I’ve started a fundraising effort to help young women in the community start their educations without having to worry about day to day expenses. If I can help two or three young ladies that will give me another reason to be happy and joyful. What a Blessing!

Sorry I got a little too happy and lost my superpower of spelling. It should read Jephthah Daughter Redeemed. Thanks.
What a great story DeBorah. Congratulations on your fundraising efforts. I think that is such a great idea. I am so glad that you enjoyed the article and that it resounded with you. Thanks for dropping by and taking the time to comment.
Regarding #1 “Continually Rethink What’s Possible,” I have a friend who completed four half Ironmans at the age of 82 this summer. For me, he stretches the boundaries of what is possible.
Wow – 4 half Ironmans is huge for anyone and knowing someone is 82 is so inspiring. That’s really exactly what it means to see and seize your possibilities. I love that. Thanks for sharing that story Susan.
So true, 5 simple but life-changing realisations. Agreed, the sooner you get there the better. What you believe is possible for me is the key. I just wrote something similar about conquering fear, which to me is the same thing. http://mindsetdestination.com/blog/how-to-get-over-fear/
Thanks Zivana so much for the comment and for dropping by. I’ll have to drop by your site and check out your post:)
So succinct and clear! I’d say these 5 realizations constitute a complete self help, self-actualization or basic private coaching series. The only other thing that comes close is Debbie Ford’s book “The Right Questions.” Pithy and powerful!
Thanks Aryn for the kind words:) I really appreciate it and am so glad you enjoyed the post. A private coaching series – never thought of that. Thanks for the suggestion:)
