If you’re going to doubt something, doubt your own limits. Don Ward
I think one of the most important lessons I have ever learned is that when you really want something you’ve got to continue pushing and pushing because success is often right around the corner – even if you have doubts and don’t see tangible signs that it’s coming.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of feeling that what you want is just so far off and you can end up getting discouraged. That’s why I am a huge believer in using my RESET button and reminding myself of the right perspective anytime I am working to accomplish anything.
Because, let’s be real, the fears and the doubts of the Chief Negativity Officer in your mind are always ready and willing to take over if you let them. I can remember so many times my Chief Negativity Officer tried to take over and convince me of things -
You’re going to put in all this work and not get into law school.
You’re going to fail the bar and everyone will know that you failed.
You can’t just quit your job and do what you really want. You’ve got bills, responsibilities and what if you don’t succeed?
There were so many times throughout my life that my Chief Negativity Officer literally had me totally freaked out.
But, not anymore, because I have seen it’s pattern and I know it is trying to do whatever it can to trigger fears and doubts. It’s just trying to keep me trapped and feeling small.
But, I can choose to hit my RESET button and instead remind myself of the truth.
In fact, in the course I am so excited to share with you early next year, I show exactly how to use the RESET button to move up the Possibility Spiral and accomplish those things that are so important to you.
I have used my RESET button to “get my mind right” time and time again to accomplish the things I wanted and one way I’ve done that is by being able to call up certain truths and keep them top of mind.
The Possibility of Today
If you don’t already have a list of quotes or truths that allows you to hit your RESET button, take some time TODAY, grab a piece of paper, at the top of the page write “RESET” and list out at least 5 good truths or quotes (you can also use the list I shared below).
You’ve got to have a list because you want to be prepared in advance if your Chief Negativity Officer tries to creep up. The great thing is that you absolutely can stop the Chief Negativity Officer from “doing what it does” each and every time by reminding yourself of the truth.

I love that Don Ward quote. It’s like, if you can’t stop feeling doubt, it gives you a way to channel it so it works in your favor.
Thanks Amy so much for the comment and for dropping by. I really appreciate it and am glad that you liked that Don Ward quote. It really is a good one.
I *love* that you host/ess a radio show…I tuned in right away!
My *reset button* is my gratitude button..refreshes/enrichens/enlivens each time I push it.
And, I love the affirmations…thank you for the beautiful gift of this message!
I think gratitude is the PERFECT reset button:) Thanks Joy for stopping by and sharing your thoughts here. I really apprecaite it.
I see some many people who talk themselves into defeat instead of seeing that there is more that they could do, that they have greater potential. Let’s not forget we can be more.
I couldn’t agree with you more Peter – we should always focus on how much potential we really do have. Thanks so much for the comment and for dropping by.
I’m a bit embarrassed to be quoting a televangelist, but Joel Osteen preached a great sermon about this reset idea. He spoke of it as hitting the delete button, but the idea was similar. When we realize that we have the power to change these thoughts, it is truly and immediately liberating.
Delete button. I actually really like that. Makes perfect sense:) Thanks so much for the comment Galen and thanks for dropping by.
interesting post and it is so motivating !
This has made my day. Thanks!
So glad Sylvia:) Thanks for making mine:)
Hi Sibyl,
I can’t help but look at the ‘Chief Negativity Officer’ as being a part of a ‘Chain of Command’…you know…like the military, job place, or who miight have rule the roost
Well, or the use here…’Our Minds’

“It is wrong to expect a reward for your struggles. The reward is the act of struggle itself, not what you win. Even though you can’t expect to defeat the absurdity of the world, you must make that attempt. That’s morality, that’s religion. That’s art. That’s life.”
~ Phil Ochs
“If we go down into ourselves, we find that we possess exactly what we desire.”
~ Simone Weil
Living is being born slowly. It would be a little too easy if we could borrow ready-made souls.
~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
~ Desiderata
Man’s main task in life is to give birth to himself, to become what he potentially is. The most important product of his effort is his own personality.
~ Erich Fromm
Thanks Sibyl!
I love, love, love all those quotes Rand. You know I am so into good quotes so thank you so much for sharing such good ones:)
Great quotes, Sibyl. I love them all, but Number 5 speaks to me today. Learning patience is a virtue. Take care and thanks for sharing.
Oh how right you are:) I think that is definitely something I realized later in life – but late is better than never:)
Thanks so much Cathy for the comment and for dropping by.
Great post and great messages! I really like number 1 and 5, so inspiring!!! Thanks Sibyl for sharing them!

As I am now in my mid-sixties and so many friends and relatives have “passed on”, it is sometimes hard to think that I still have a lot of life to live. Reading this posting and reading these quotes have helped me consider that my mind does need a “Refresh.” I was, in particular, impressed with the second quote. I have fallen off the “choo-choo train” and I think I need to get back on…
Thanks for the comment Annell and thanks for dropping by. Here’s to an amazing 2013:)
The right word is RESET, not Refresh, but I think I need both…
All your posts are amazing!
I think you’re way too generous:) but I’ll take it. Thank you so much Smita for your kind words.
