How To Strengthen Your Belief And Get Rid Of Any Doubts That Are Holding You Back

Thethingsyouare.jpg“The things you are passionate about are not random, they are your calling.” Fabienne Fredrickson

I think one of the easiest things to lose sight of is the fact that there is a very important reason why we have certain dreams and things we are truly passionate about.

There are dreams we have had for as long as we can remember.

There are ideas that have staying power in our minds and hearts.

There are things we can feel deep down we are meant to do.

These dreams that we are truly passionate about are not random. They have been given to us and we are supposed to do our part and help make them happen. They are not meant to be fleeting or something we don’t take action on. I know that was the mistake I made for years because I thought I was being “practical” and “responsible”.

But, one day it finally clicked and I realized two things:

1. Yes, I was being practical and taking care of those things that were important and my responsibility (which was a great thing)

BUT

2. In order to be practical and responsible, I was choosing to “slow walk” reaching my dreams and I wasn’t doing everything I should have been doing (which was not such a great thing).

That raises a good question doesn’t it? Is it more important to be practical and responsible or to go after those things you feel are right for you? We can think about this for a long time. We can go back and forth for years with this question. I know I did.

There were times when I was ready to go. I would even take a lot of steps forward. But then “reality” would set in and I would have so many good reasons to hit pause and take care of other things I assumed were more important. I thought I was being responsible and that I was supposed to put my dreams on the proverbial back burner.

But, there was a big problem with the way I was thinking and going about things … A really big problem.

There is a huge flaw in the question and thinking that you can’t be practical and responsible while you also go after what feels most right. It is a little mind trap we can fall into if we aren’t aware of the trap.

Our minds will do a great job of providing us with compelling evidence as to why it’s not the right time; or why we need to be more prepared; or that we need more money; or certain things need to fall into place first; or a list of other things disguised as reasons to choose being practical and responsible over what you truly want.

But, here’s the Truth.

You can be practical and responsible and still go after your dreams.

It’s not one or the other. In fact, going after our dreams and what feels most right is actually one of the most responsible things we can do because life doesn’t feel right and it also doesn’t flow as smoothly as it should when we let the thing we truly desire stay trapped inside of us.

Our dreams are not supposed to just be dreamt about. We are meant to listen to the direction they are pointing us in and make them happen. Your dreams are doing their very best to come alive, but you also must do your part. It doesn’t mean you have to do anything drastic or crazy. But, you do have to make a choice.

You must choose to have complete faith in your dreams. You’ve got to believe in them even before you see them coming true. And then you’ve got to choose your faith every single day over your fears or doubts that things will not work out.

Because so often what is holding us back has very little to do with our ability to be practical and responsible. There are always practical and responsible steps we can take and we are more than capable of figuring out how to find a way to take those steps, even if we have a lot of other things going on.

When we are truly honest with ourselves, oftentimes it is our doubt that is holding us back.

We haven’t reached the point where we feel completely sure things will work out the way we want them to. So, we make excuses or convince ourselves we are opting for the better and safer choice to be practical and responsible for the time being.

What that usually means is that we don’t use the day in front of us in the right way. We don’t take full advantage of the hours we have to do the things we could be doing that would allow us to strengthen our belief or to take more steps forward. I understand this all to well because I fell into this trap for years. Doubts and fears have a way of clouding our minds and make us overlook what is truly possible and even realistic.

And that’s why we have to continually strengthen our belief so we can choose faith. It’s like that great quote by Bob Proctor explains-

“Faith and fear both demand you believe in something you cannot see. You choose.”

The Possibility of Today

It’s important to do things that help get our doubts out of the way a little more each day. Starting Today and for the next 30 days, let’s really take a quantum leap forward in terms of strengthening our belief, making progress, and getting rid of any doubts (some that we may not even realize we have). Join Me?

What are we going to do?

1. After you finish reading this article, take 10 minutes Today and create a list of at least 3 things you can do in the next 30 days to take more steps forward toward what you truly want.

2. Do one of those things Today and commit to completing your list over the next 30 days.

3. Also, over the next 30 days, commit to strengthening your belief even more. Print out or write down the statement below and read it every morning. Even if you already believe it, read it every morning and feel the truth of it. It will only make your belief even stronger. Anytime you notice any doubts surface – “What if things don’t work out?” “It’s not going to really happen” , etc. stop whatever you’re doing and read the statement again.

The Statement To Strengthen Belief and Help You Get Rid of Any Doubts:

Your dreams and the things you are passionate about have been given to you, and only you.  There is a very important reason why they were placed in your mind and your heart. It is not random. They are meant to come alive, but you must do your part. I know you may have some doubts, but everything is going to work out and what you need will come at the perfect time. But, in order for that to happen, you’ve got to let go of these doubts. Doubts, get out of my mind now. It’s time to finally get to where I want to be. I am ready.

Live Today Better Than Yesterday.

This reminds me of Jim Carrey’s commencement address: “I learned many, many lessons from my father, but not least of which is that you can fail at something you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance doing what you love.”

Wasn’t that an AMAZING speech Jim Carey gave. One of the best I’ve ever seen. Hope all is going well on your end. Thanks for dropping by and sharing your thoughts Davis. xoxo

Ah, the timing of this is serendipitous. I’ve been at a crossroads the last few months, knowing that I need to move on for where I am currently but too scared to take that leap because of all the ‘what ifs’. Money is at the heart of that anxiety (and isn’t it always?) which frustrates me. The best advice I’ve been given (and just reiterated to me yesterday) is that if I can accept that things may not work out exactly how I want them to without living in regret, then now is the perfect time to go after my dreams. In other words, believe in your choice and embrace all possibilities. By sitting back and over analyzing the ‘what ifs’ and allowing fear (which never goes anywhere mind you) to dictate the terms, I’m essentially keeping myself in ‘safe’ territory, never venturing out to do what I’m meant to do. Your blog post was a necessary reminder that the choice I’ve made to move on from my current job and take that leap is the right one, no matter how terrifying it is. Thank you!

Hi Maribel- Thank you so much for sharing your story. I think it really helps when people can see a glimpse into the things
other people are working through. Yes, as you said money a lot of times will be at the heart of the anxiety. I know it was for me. I think there are a lot of different approaches I have seen work. Some people make sure they have savings that will cover them for awhile until the transition. Other people have a little less in savings, but are willing to take on more risk and know they will find a way to work it work. I think what is most important is to do what feels most right to you. You are right that you can overthink it and stay stuck. What worked for me was to sit with the decision for one week. I would meditate for about 30 minutes and then think about what felt most right. I did this everyday and then my answers started coming and I knew what my best next steps were. I also knew that staying stuck and not doing something was absolutely not an option. If you haven’t already done this, then I think that would be a great thing to do and help you find even more answers, confidence and your best next steps. I am so glad you liked the article. Thanks for the kind words. xoxo

I have the three things I can do the next 30 days to move me forward towards my goal. I appreciate the encouragement. I love the quote by Bob Proctor. It is so true. We can either choose fear or we can choose to have faith and live fully.

Very inspirational. I’ve dream of owning two more businesses. I already own a home daycare but want to open another one plus open up s breakfast and lunch diner. The fear of not being financially stable in my present daycare has kept me from persuading my dreams of the other one and diner. Finances are not there and trying to find location and people that want to REALLY work is an issue. I can see my dreams but doubt overrule my dreams. I’m willing to take the challenge to do away with doubt and choose to increase my faith in seeing them come to pass in Jesus name. Thank you for this article. I was not expecting to read such a powerful and uplifting article.

Hi a very motivating article. Doubts can really hold us back and fear sets in if we allow it to conquer us. True indeed, we have to let go of these doubts and focus on what we really want to achieve in life. Thanks for sharing.
